Currently working in a school teaching Edexcel GCSE PE (New Spec) and BTEC Sport (Level 3).
Resources will primarily be things I produce for my Y11 GCSE group as we work through the new syllabus. Along with resources made at my previous schools / during my PGCE year.
Teaching since 2014. Previous background was in sports coaching and performance analysis at football academies.

I have created an 8 lesson scheme of work which I will be using after Easter with all of my core PE groups from Y7-9. They are designed to be easily adaptable to allow for changes to be made to suit groups of different abilities / needs. Each practice allows for scaffolding for less able students and progressions for more able students.
Each lesson includes a warm up / starter activity, learning outcomes, a skill development practice with progressions and a game at the end.
The groups I will be working with will generally be fairly low ability for cricket, which means the main focus of this S.O.W is developing batting and fielding skills. I will develop bowling by using underarm / throw downs / drop feeds if necessary. I will also be using these games and skill development practices with my KS4 groups.
Most of the activities in this SOW can be taught in an indoor environment - which is useful due to the weather we are likely to get! We have indoor nets which will allow me to adpat lessons to having some students working on batting / bowling in the nets, and others working on catching skills / fielding on the other side.
I have also included some resource cards for batting, bowling and fielding. I don’t often use them in lessons, although some may find them useful.
6 lesson scheme of work designed to introduce softball to your KS3 PE curriculum!
Teaches basic skills and knowledge of rules to be able to set up and play softball games!
These lessons were created to be embedded into the KS3 curriculum and give students a taste of what studying PE at KS4 entails. The aim of these lessons is to give students a basic understanding of key topics studied in GCSE PE and engage students in a different way of learning in KS3 PE lessons which would normally be completely practically based.
Students will complete one theory lesson during each block of practical lessons throughout the year (one theory lesson every 6-7 weeks). Throughout KS3 students should develop a basic understanding of all topics before starting GCSE PE in year 10.
The lessons were tailored to the Edexcel GCSE PE (2016) specification and each year group focuses on a different topic within their lessons.
*Would be suitable for other GCSE PE qualifications with similar content.
*Also useful as a wet weather / cover lesson to keep students engaged in a classroom.
Included:
7 lessons based around one ‘Big Question’ on Anatomy & Physiology and Health, Fitness and well-being.
A graphic organiser / booklet which can be printed out and given to students to work in each lesson (in place of working in an exercise book).
A PowerPoint with all 7 lessons – Each lesson including…
o Title slide
o Engage/starter tasks
o Shared learning outcomes – using big & small question
o Share new information – Students fill in the blanks in their booklets to gather new information shared in the lesson.
o Mini plenaries to check understanding throughout the lesson.
o Tasks – Application activities where students demonstrate their learning.
o Final task is to complete the ‘small question’ for the lesson which involves an extended answer. Hints included to support students with what to include and a ‘WAGOLL’ of what a good one looks like!
o Plenary task to wrap up the lesson.
Links to GCSE curriculum: Each lesson includes GCSE content which has been simplified / scaffolded to be suitable for younger students. Extended answers to the small question at the end of the lesson use the same ‘PEB’ structure that is encouraged at GCSE level (Point, Explain, Benefit).
*Some videos which were initially embedded into the PPT have been removed to reduce file size. Links for the videos have been posted into the slides.

Powerpoint with learning outcomes.
Presents new information on muscles / types of muscles / muscles & movement / antagonistic pairs.
Task - Matching task to identify all muscles (similar to bones activity on skeletal system lesson).
Can be set out like an information relay - detailed muscles information sheet which can be put at the front / outside the room.
Differentiated worksheet to complete.
Created for the Edexcel GCSE PE (New Spec).
Powerpoint includes 3 questions from component 2 - health & performance. (3-6 mark questions).
The focus of the lesson is to help students gain a better understanding of how to interpret questions & know what to include in their answer.
Includes a table of common command words and a brief definition.
Demonstrates how to break down a question before attempting to answer it.
2/3 questions provide model answers which students can assess (WWW/EBI) before answering the question for themselves.
Final question gives students the mark scheme after they have completed it - hopefully hteu will have a better idea of how to gain full marks by this point!
Visual Powerpoint timers included - encouraging students to work on the questions for a realistic amount of time.
BTEC National Sport Unit 1 - Anatomy & Physiology - Topic A skeletal system: Exam practice lesson
Covers all areas from the first topic from BTEC Sport Unit 1 anatomy & physiology. Used as a revision / home work sheet.
KS3 fitness 10 lesson scheme of work.
Incudes:
Fitness testing lessons
Circuit, interval, kettlebell training
Calories lesson
Boxercise lesson
Team challenge
Lessons include resource cards to support lesson, learning outcomes, questioning ideas, differentiated activities. Alternative ideas given depending on equipment / space available.
All the lessons are ones I use when teaching fitness at KS3. The space I would use to teach these lessons would be in a ‘old school’ style gym, with rowing machines, battle ropes, dumbells, kettlebells, skipping ropes, hurdles, step up boxes, medicine balls. Some lessons have alternative suggestions if you do not have access to all equipment.
I have found these lessons really useful to incorporate lots of GCSE content in them which helps give students prior knowledge of some topics they will cover in later years.
Created for Edexcel GCSE PE (New Spec 2016)
I used this lesson as a practical way of teaching the theory of how deoxygenated blood becomes oxygenated. I had previously taught a lesson on this so the students had a prior understanding of the heart & blood vessles, and used this as a consolidation lesson / to address misconceptions.
The starter recaps previous learning to label the features of the heart. The rest of the lesson students work in small groups following the journey that blood takes around the body. I did this in the sports hall as there was more space available!
Worksheet included to give some writing tasks to support the lesson. Students really enjoyed the lesson!
GCSE PE - Component 1 Exam practice revision lesson (Edexcel 2016)
Includes:
Silent starter activity - mulitple choice exam questions
Breakdown of three exam questions from past papers, with helpful hints to support more independent answers (PEB).
Worksheets for more / less able students to complete exam questions on.
Green pen activity to peer/self assess answers.
Plenary activity to review keywords / definitions.
Includes:
Lesson plan and learning outcomes. Starter activity to recap previous lessons on health and skill related components of fitness.
Differentiated question sheets on each skill related component of fitness - give each student one question sheet for them to answer. (All questions on a particular component of fitness are the same, the low ability sheets have sentence starters, the middle sheets have hint questions and the high ability sheets have bonus marks!).
Peer assess - with given hints on the power point of what to look for.
Model answers provided for each question, students can then compare to their own answers and make additional changes to perfect their answer.
I found this really useful as lots of my students have a good understanding of the content, but struggle to apply it to (sometimes fairly easy!) exam questions.
Includes 6 revision worksheets to use as a revision tool to recap all aspects of the GCSE PE curriculum (Edexcell 2016 Spec)
Topics:
Health, fitness & well-being
Sport psychology
Socio-cultural influences

Students have found this really useful - Exam questions chosen were on topic areas students said they found particuarly challenging.
This lesson was created to support students preparing for their external assessment for Unit 1 - Anatomy & Physiology (BTEC Sport L3).

I created these structure strips to help my students have a better understanding of how to structure their answers for long answer questions.
I print them out and stick them to the side of an A4 paper, students use the information on the structure strip to help them write out their answer next to it. I have seen a massive improvement in the most recent assessment & the students have said they find them really helpful!
There are only 3 questions so far, i am creating more as i go. This file has structure strips on the following questions:
Assess the advantages and disadvantages of commercialisation in sport. (9 marks)
